Where to Eat on Commercial Street: A Provincetown Restaurant Guide
Commercial Street is the spine of Provincetown, a narrow, three-mile stretch packed with galleries, shops, guesthouses, and more restaurants per block than almost anywhere else on Cape Cod. Rather than pointing you to a single "best" spot that might change from one season to the next, here's a guide to the kinds of places you'll find along the street so you can pick what fits your night.
Seafood shacks and raw bars
This is a working fishing harbor, so Provincetown takes its seafood seriously. Expect raw bars with oysters and littlenecks on ice, lobster rolls (warm with butter or cold with mayo, pick a side), and fried seafood platters built around whatever came off the boat that morning. A good number of these spots have decks or waterfront patios, which is where you want to be around sunset.
Fine dining
There's also a real fine-dining scene here, often tucked into old sea captains' houses or converted gallery spaces, with menus built around the same local seafood but with a lot more ambition behind them. Book ahead if you're going on a summer weekend. These tables don't sit open long.
Bakeries and breakfast
Start the day at one of the bakeries or breakfast counters along the street, several of which have been there for decades. The Portuguese bakeries are the ones worth seeking out for malasadas and sweet breads, a holdover from the town's fishing community, alongside the usual muffins and coffee.
Late night and casual
Once the sun's down, Commercial Street shifts gears: pizza by the slice, casual bars, food trucks that stay open well after the shops close. Honestly, one of our favorite things about this town is a slow walk with a slice in hand at 10pm.
A few notes on eating out here
Reservations matter in July and August, especially for a waterfront table at dinner. Outside of peak summer, call ahead, since a lot of places cut their hours or close for the season. And in summer, just walk. Parking on Commercial Street is tight enough that driving usually costs you more time than it saves. Hideaway Hill is a short drive from the whole street, so it's easy to leave the car behind for the evening.
After dinner, it's a quiet drive back to Hideaway Hill. View our Provincetown vacation rentals to plan your stay.
